PANTONE'S 2012 COLOR OF THE YEAR

Pantone, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, announced on December 8th that PANTONE® 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, a vivacious, enticing hue, is the color of the year for 2012.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Want to use Tangerine Tango in your wedding? It can be the splash of color your already neutral palate may need. Incorporate it in your flowers, stationary, and pillows for your lounge seating. If you're a little more daring this would be the perfect vibrant color for your bridesmaids and tangerine linens are sure to brighten up your reception!

Many past brides have already jumped on the orange bandwagon so there's lots of inspiration out there. When it comes to infusing color, the options are endless. We're looking forward to seeing how all you newly engaged couples use it in your upcoming weddings.

THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR!!

2011 was a memorable year for Viva both personally and professionally. Along with the addition of a beautiful baby girl to the Viva family, we were honoured to receive several acclamations from the wedding industry and grateful once again to have been chosen by such wonderful couples as their preferred wedding coordinator.

We of course can’t take all the credit for the flawless execution of the many stylish weddings we were a part of in 2011. Viva is so very fortunate to work with the best of the best when it comes to wedding vendors. Every year Viva thanks you for your talent, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond to make our couples happy and this year isn’t any different. We couldn’t do it without you!

Viva would also like to send a great big thank you to other wedding planners in the Ottawa area and abroad. While the wedding industry is a competitive one, it takes a strong, confident woman to rise above this and see that working together benefits not only our own business but our clients as well. Viva's so lucky to have developed wonderful relationships and many solid bonds with several talented planners and would like to thank you for your friendship and support.

While we’re sad to see 2011 go, we can’t hold back our excitement for all that lies ahead. A new year brings new weddings and we’re absolutely thrilled about the fabulous couples we’ve booked for 2012. From elaborate city glam to intimate country chic, it’s going to be a great year!

Happy New Year from Viva la wedding and all the best to everyone in 2012!!

A dress, a dream, a designer:

When I first met her (8...9 years ago?) Phaedra was my server at a candlelit restaurant in Portland's Pearl District. But really she was (and is!) a budding bridal dress designer, with a penchant for gamine necklines and billows of tulle. She has long since flown to New York to try her fortunes there, but we keep in touch, as sisters in bridal design should (the dear girl has even rummaged through the Garment District for a very particular olive-gold velvet ribbon I needed). Now, after years of honing her skills with custom and one-of-a-kind design, she's preparing to produce her very own bridal gown collection! I couldn't be more excited, and I urge you to join me in supporting her venture on Kickstarter. If her backers' support amounts to $5000 by the time the pledge period ends, she'll receive matching funds to produce her line and lookbook. Special benefits are conferred at each pledge level (I can't wait to find out what dress is named after me).

Whidbey Island wedding

Photographer Julie Harmsen forwarded me these pretty, pretty photos of Sarah and Hunter's wedding on windswept Whidbey Island. The rustic maritime location is such a sweet setting for her Oysters & Pearls gown.

{love this last one -- hurrah for the bride who's unafraid to rock the red wine}

...that looks on Tempests and is never shaken...

San Francisco's moody skies and blustery breezes matched Suzy's Tempest gown perfectly. The reception was at the spectacular Shell Dance Orchid Garden in Pacifica. Best wishes, Suzy and Evan.

Pamela in Honeychurch.

Isn't she stunning? Pamela's finger waves, red lipstick, and dainty gloves are right out of the 1930s--perfect for a brickwork-and-bridges New York wedding (the couple now lives in Zurich).

Neet!

I've been hearing such great things about Neet Magazine, so I was thrilled to be included in Jen McCabe's roundup of independent designers.

L'amour en gris.

Sweet and stylish Erika wore a customized (oyster grey!) version of my Honeychurch gown. The dashing couple married at Benachi House & Gardens in New Orleans. Quelle belle dame.

A very special project.

Photos: Greg Pacek
Kristina is a lovely lady from Toronto who brought to me a family heirloom wedding dress from the early years of the 20th century. Though the dress itself wasn't quite wearable, it was decorated with some exquisite chantilly lace--the kind you just can't get anymore--in a perfect shade of mellow antique ivory. The dress also featured a sweet pearly beaded trim, stitched by careful hands almost a hundred years ago (you can see it making an appearance at the waistband of Kristina's dress). Making the most of two in-person meetings (one in San Francisco, one in Portland), Kristina and I collaborated on the dress you see. I used almost every inch of the original lace to embellish the bodice and an underlayer of the skirt--the smallest scraps were fashioned into flowers with lace and silk organza petals, which were appliquéd on the bodice. The skirt is organza and tulle over silk shantung--the gauzy layers helping to harmonize old and new materials. I truly loved working on this dress, and she wears it beautifully. Thanks, Kristina, and best wishes.
